Installing Protective Multiple Earthing (PME)

Earthing

If your electrician has recommended installing or upgrading your earthing system, we can arrange a visit to check if PME can be installed at your property. In most cases, we’re able to install a PME connection point, allowing your electrician to safely earth your property. However, if the electricity cable for your area isn’t compatible with this type of earthing, our teams will provide advice on the next steps. This may involve your electrician installing a more suitable type of earthing.

Installing or upgrading to PME (Protective Multiple Earthing) at a property

An electrician

An electrician has advised that you have a High Earth Loop Impedance (HELI)

HELI is also know as high Ze or high earth reading. We've now made it easy for you or your electrician to report this online. Please note this is not the same as requesting Protective Multiple Earthing (PME).

What's involved

We aim to process your request and arrange a site visit within 15 working days. Sometimes we may need longer, but we’ll contact you as soon as possible to confirm dates.

1
Contacting an qualified electrician

If you have concerns or questions about the earthing at your property and haven't contacted an electrician yet, we recommend arranging a visit from them as a first step. They'll be able to provide you with the relevant guidance and solutions. They'll also let you know if you need to reach out to us for upgrades or to resolve any issues.

2
Request a free site visit

If your electrician has advised that you have no earthing or you need to upgrade your earthing to a PME, the next step is to request a free site visit by completing our online form or by logging onto our customer portal.

If you need to report an issue with your earthing or you've been advised that you have a High Earth Loop impedance (HELI) or Ze reading, find out how to report this.

3
We'll visit you

We'll aim to visit you within 15 working days of processing your request. If we require additional visits, we'll let you know.

4
We'll complete a PME check

Our engineers will check if PME earthing is compatible with the network in your area. If it is, we'll install PME connection at your property. If it's unavailable or not suitable to the local network, then we'll talk you through the next steps. This may involve your electrician installing an alternative and more suitable type of earthing for your property.

5
Your electrician can connect your internal earthing

If we're able to provide you with a PME connection, the final step will be for your electrician to connect your internal earthing to the terminal (connection point) which we've provided.
