Connect a multi-use building

Connect a multi-use building

If you own a multi-use building (for example flats above a shop or a house converted into multiple properties), and want each property to have its own electricity meter, there are a few ways you can do this. This does depend on how the existing electricity supply is set up at the building. Here are some common scenarios that customers may experience:

  • Customers have a sufficient electricity supply with spare phases. In this case, customers can proceed with installing up to three additional electricity meters by contacting their electricity supplier
  • The electricity supply is sufficient, but there are no spare phases, or the customer requires more than three meters. This means customers can either request an additional electricity connection to be installed by us or arrange for an electrician to install a distribution board.
  • In some instances the existing electricity supply may not be able to support the additional meters and will require us to upgrade the main electricity supply

We've created some useful guides with more information and guidance below.

We highly recommend contacting an electrician first as they will be able to help you understand what changes you need to make to your electricity to complete your project.
