Payments for exporting electricity - Smart Export Guarantee
Solar and storage
There may be times when your renewable energy systems such as solar panels and storage devices produce more electricity than you actually need or can store. The excess energy generated can be sent back into the electricity grid and can be used by others. The good news is that the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) scheme introduced by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in January 2020, ensures small scale renewable energy generators get paid by electricity suppliers for the export of electricity back into the grid.
