What size distributed generation equipment are you connecting?

To provide you with the best advice and information, we need you to select the size of the equipment you're connecting. 

  • Solar or storage equipment rated from 5kW up to 50kW
    If you're connecting equipment from 5kW up to 50kW, you can use our automated 'Smart Connect' portal to apply to connect. Once you've submitted your request, our team will take a look and let you know if any updates are needed to the electricity network. More guidance and information can be found further down the page.   • Wind & solar farms and large scale storage rated at 50kW or higher
    If you're making a connection on a larger scale where the equipment is rated at 50kW or higher, we can help guide you through the steps involved, the support tools available to you and how to apply. These types of projects often include connecting wind and solar farms and large scale energy storage. Find out more.

In recent years, there's been a growing interest in the installation of solar panels or storage systems  (batteries) at commercial buildings such as offices or housing development projects.

If you're installing solar and storage equipment rated at 5kW up to 50kW you just simply need to apply to connect to our network and include details of the type of charger you want to install. Our team will then review your requirements and provide a suitable solution.

Complete our online form

If the solar or storage device being connected is rated between 5kW to 50kW, installers can simply apply online connect to our electricity network, installers can simply apply using our automated installer 'Smart connect' portal.

We'll let you know if upgrades are required

Our team will review your requirements and let you know if any upgrades to the electricity network are required before your connection. This will include a detailed price for the work to be completed.

Payment and booking in the work

If you're happy to go ahead, we can then book in the work. We would need full payment at this stage to proceed.

We'll complete our work

We'll complete our work so that you can then complete your connection.

To make sure you can start using electricity as soon as we install or upgrade your electricity connection, you will need to arrange for your electricity supplier to visit you on the same day. This is because they are responsible for installing the electricity meter. Once that's done your power will be ready to go.

Things you need to know before applying for a solar installation

Did you know that the size of your roof space does not necessarily determine the amount of solar panels you can install? Or that the amount of electricity that the solar panels generate cannot be more than 125% of your supply capacity?

Installers can apply to connect to our electricity network using our online automated portal called Smart connect. If upgrades to the electricity supply are required, our dedicated teams will reach out to installers directly to discuss the details.
