What's involved
Heat and heat networks
When we talk about ‘low carbon heating’, we mean any type of heating that emits significantly less carbon than standard alternatives. We are seeing a number of different innovations in this space from large scale individual heat pump roll outs to the creation of area wide heat networks, all of which will require their own approach.
You can find out more information in our heat packs below:
- Heat pack for local government
- Heat pack for developers and business
- Heat pack for domestic customers
If your heating system is part of a larger project, such as connecting a housing estate or a large commercial building, all you need to do is to include details of your preferred heating system in your application and our engineers will provide a suitable solution.
If your project is purely to deploy an alternative heating system then we can help. If you’re unsure where to start or want to understand your options, you can use our pre-application support tools, which includes our Open Data Portal and Technical Design Specifications library (G81). You can use these tools to assess any existing supply characteristics and the nature of the local network to help you understand any effect your proposals may have.
Once your application has been submitted, we will work with you to provide the most suitable connection at the lowest cost.
What's involved
Use our support tools
If you need more information on how to plan your project or how it may impact the local electricity network, you can use our pre-application support tools.
Complete our online form
If you require a new electricity connection or an upgrade to an existing connection (energy usage of 70kVA of higher) you'll need to complete our online form and include details of the type of device you want to connect.
We'll send you a price
Our teams will review your requirements and send you a detailed price for the work to be completed.
Payment and booking in the work
If you're happy to go ahead, we can then book in the work. We would need full payment at this stage to proceed.
We'll complete our work
We'll complete our work so that you can then complete your connection.
To make sure you can start using electricity as soon as we install or upgrade your electricity connection, you will need to arrange for your electricity supplier to visit you on the same day. This is because they are responsible for installing your electricity meter. Once that's done your power will be ready to go.
Ready to go ahead?
If you're all set and ready to proceed with the work, the next step is to use our Connections Application Portal to complete an application.
