Close down or remove a Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN)
Disconnect
An MPAN is a unique number given to every electricity meter. It's usually 13 digits long and can be found on your electricity bill. Look for a grid of numbers with a large letter 'S'. The MPAN is made up of the bottom row of numbers. An example of where to find this is shown in the red box.
If you're the bill payer, you can find your MPAN using our online tool.
How to get an MPAN closed down
When electricity cables are disconnected, MPANs will be automatically cancelled. This means that your electricity supplier will stop billing you and close your account.
In certain cases, electricity suppliers may request a 'Logical Disconnection of an MPAN'. This typically happens when the supplier has removed a secondary 'off peak meter' which connects from the main electricity supply. As it's a secondary meter it means the original main meter will remain connected to the electricity network. With these situations, no physical disconnection is required from our teams.
If you have any further questions, please contact our Meter Point Administration Service (MPAS) team at mpas@ukpowernetworks.co.uk.
Did you know, your electricity supplier should request this on your behalf using an electronic flow known as a D0132 (Type A) which is also known as a 'Logical disconnection' instruction? Our specialist MPAS team will then process the request.
