Pre application support
Connect a project - Commercial
We understand that there are a number of steps involved when applying for a new electricity connection, moving an existing one, or installing low carbon technologies. Don’t worry, we're here to make it easier for you with all the help and advice that you need.
If you’re unsure where to begin or want to understand your options, you can use our pre application support tools to plan your project.
Nature of Supply
If you want to know more about your existing electricity connection before you apply or complete any work, we can help you. Whether this is your first time needing this service or if you have done this before, we want to make this as easy as possible for you.
Do you want to know what fuse size your existing supply is fed through? Or the maximum capacity the existing electricity network assets and your service can support? If so, we can arrange for an expert to look at your existing connection and give you details about the size and setup of this. They will be able to give you some advice before you apply.
Technical design specifications (G81 Library)
Our design specification library contains technical information to help you with your works. For example, if you want to know what type of substations are available or want to know more about the construction of our overhead lines, all of these documents are published here.
Request electricity cable plans
We encourage anyone carrying out work that involves digging to request plans showing you where underground electricity cables are. This is vital for your safety so you can avoid hitting electricity cables as per HS(G)47 ‘Avoiding danger from underground services’.
Open Data Portal
Our Open Data Portal features one of the UK’s largest sets of information about the electricity network. The online portal brings together thousands of datasets from a vast range of sources to provide visibility of our network assets, where they are, what capacity they have and how they are being utilised.
For example, you can understand where our overhead line assets are or identify substations in your local area.

Appendix G Summary - East of England (EPN) and South East of England (SPN)
The Bilateral Connection Agreement (BCA) is a formal contract between UK Power Networks and the National Energy System Operator (NESO) for each Grid Supply Point (GSP), containing various Appendices. The Appendix G of the BCA contains the list of generators with a capacity equal or greater than 1 MW (and less than 100 MW) connected to, or accepted to connect to, that GSP from the distribution network.
Please find below a link to the spreadsheet summarising the contents of the Appendix G for the GSPs located in EPN and SPN. This includes an overview on capacity, headroom, submission dates and other relevant data to provide adequate context.
Please note the dataset is accurate as of the date outlined in the spreadsheet.
